A police officer and a civilian have reportedly been killed in a shooting in the Canadian city, with the suspect ‘neutralized’ as well

Three people have been killed in a shooting in Montreal, Canada, local media report. The police have confirmed that one officer died and another was injured in the incident that occurred in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood downtown.

According to the Montreal Gazette, a civilian and the suspected gunman were killed in the shootout.

Videos of the police intervention circulating on social media suggest that the shooting took place near the Supermarché PA mall on Westbury Avenue. The surrounding area has been cordoned off by police, with local residents told to stay at home and avoid approaching windows. Footage shows police engaged in a point-blank gunfight with the suspected gunman.

According to the police, the suspect was ‘neutralized’ in the shootout, but the operation is ongoing. A police official confirmed to the Montreal Gazette that the suspected shooter was killed.

Law enforcement officials have not provided any information on the suspect’s identity or possible motives.

Located near the city center, the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood is home to several public schools and colleges, including the main campus of Montreal University, as well as some hospitals and prominent religious buildings, such as Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal – a large domed basilica, which is widely regarded as the most popular local tourist attraction.
